IS JESUS CHRIST GOD
Paul wrote really striking things in his letter to the Corinthian church. He revealed God’s ownership and superiority over humanity and over Jesus Christ too.
1 Corinthians 3:23
And you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God.
1 Corinthians 11:3
But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
The above scriptures clearly reveal that Jesus and God are two different people and that God is superior. Clear scriptures like these and many others must dictate truth, not few misinterpreted or misquoted scriptures.
Just like many scriptures misinterpreted or even misquoted, 1 John 5:6-8 is also misunderstood to imply that Jesus is God or there’s a trinity (3 in 1 God).
1 John 5:6-8
This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
This bible portion contains some sentences that appeared in no early manuscript (recall or re-read all that was said previously about manuscripts). More than half of verse 7 and the first part of verse 8 do not appear in early manuscripts. The KJV (and some other version) translated this book from a manuscript written many years after the first ones. Versions like the NIV, BLB, BSB, ISV, NET, and NHEB translated the book of John from early manuscripts.
Most versions offer this explanation in their ‘translators notes.’ The WEB version attaches this in their footnote: Only a few recent manuscripts add “in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. And there are three that testify on earth:”
The NIV renders this portion correctly.
1 John 5:7-8
For there are three that testify: the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.
The NIV, in its own footnote also wrote that the added part (in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. And there are three that testify on earth) can’t be found in any Greek manuscript before the fourteenth century.
Also think of it this way; even if John decided to write that the Father, the Word and the Holy Spirit are one, it still doesn’t mean they are all God (3 in 1). ‘They are one’ is different from ‘they are one God’ or ‘they are one person.’ Oneness indicates agreement and unity of purpose, not a ‘many in one’ person.
This brings us to yet another misinterpreted scripture – John 10:30.
John 10:30
I and my Father are one.
This very verse that clearly proofs that Jesus and God are two different people (I and MY/THE FATHER…) is the same verse people misunderstand to support the trinity dogma. Jesus said he’s one with the father (denoting agreement and unity of purpose). He didn’t say he’s the father. He didn’t say he’s one God alongside the father.
If Jesus being one with God means that he’s God, it also means that every single believer is God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit!
1 Corinthians 12:12-13
For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
We are one with Jesus Christ. That doesn’t make us ‘Jesus Christs.’
John 17:22
And the glory which thou hast given me I have given unto them; that they may be one, even as we are one.
This is Jesus speaking in the verse above. He makes it clear that his father is the one who has given him his glory and that he has dished it out to his fellow humanity; for them to be one as he’s one with his father. From the above text, the secret behind oneness is the sharing of God’s glory (his likeness/image/power/authority/Spirit).
1 Corinthians 12:13
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
This is what being one with God means. Agreement and unity as a result of drinking from one [God’s] Spirit.
See the following scriptures too.
Acts 4:32
And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.
Galatians 3:28
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 2:2
complete my joy and be of the same mind, by having the same love, being united in spirit, and having one purpose.
This is what being one is about; agreement and unity of minds. The believers were/are one. It doesn’t mean Paul was Mark. It doesn’t mean Stephen was Matthias. In the same way, Jesus and God are one. It doesn’t mean Jesus is God. They are in unity and absolute agreement.
Thank you for your time and efforts.
Light shines.
