IS JESUS CHRIST GOD: The below scripture is another scripture misinterpreted to suppose that Jesus Christ, God’s Son, is God himself.
Colossians 2:9-10 (KJV)
For in him [Christ] dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
The word ‘Godhead’ in the above scripture often perplexes some and is also often taught to refer to God, Jesus, and the Holy spirit as three persons in one God. However, it isn’t so from scriptures. The word translated as ‘Godhead’ by the KJV and some other versions is the Greek word ‘theotēs,’ which means ‘Deity.’ The NIV translates it this way.
Colossians 2:9 (NIV)
For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form
The word refers to God alone dwelling in Christ. Even context asserts so.
Colossians 1:19
For God in full measure was pleased to be in him [Christ];
So, Paul was teaching the Colossians that God was in Christ. That is, Jesus Christ had God in full measure. So does every believer.
2 Peter 1:4
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be PARTAKERS OF THE DIVINE NATURE, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
And, from scriptures, God dwells in humans by his spirit (his nature, power, and active force).
Ephesians 2:22
In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
Colossians 2:9 is simply saying that Jesus was a human with the Spirit of God dwelling in him in full measure. This was why he could do all he did.
Acts 10:38
God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, and because God was with him, he went around doing good and healing everyone who was oppressed by the devil.
Jesus Christ had God’s Spirit in full measure. John, while teaching his disciples, made this plain.
John 3:34-35
For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
God gave his Spirit to Jesus without limit. That’s clearly the same teaching communicated by Paul in his writing to the Colossians.
Paul also taught that the believer in Christ has God’s fullness [Spirit without measure] in him.
Ephesians 3:19
and to know Christ’s love which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
In Acts too, where it first happened.
Acts 2:4
And they were all FILLED with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Even the verse after Colossians 2:9 reveals the same:
Colossians 2:9-10
For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity dwells in bodily form.
AND YOU HAVE BEEN MADE COMPLETE IN CHRIST, who is the head over every ruler and authority.
That is, since God dwells in Christ (by his Spirit) without measure and you are in Christ, you are complete too. God is in you too (by his Spirit) without limit.
If the above scripture implies that Jesus is God, it therefore means everyone in Christ (every believer) is God too. Nothing would be more ridiculous and ludicrous.
Don’t you think so?
