YOU ARE GOD by Akuchay is such a flamboyant song, so doing covers for it is bound to be a feat for many. Hence the #YAGchallenge, an exceptional singing contest to find the best covers for the worship song.

Entries are collected via Instagram every week and voting are also conducted within a week but this time on YouTube, the entry with the highest number of valid views/plays wins the contest for the week. All contestants have to do is record one-minute videos of them doing a rendition of YOU ARE GOD by Akuchay, upload to Instagram using the hashtag #YAGchallenge and tag @iamakuchay and @gospelnaija. A N20,000 cash prize per week awaits the winning contestant.

After making their official appearance much earlier this year, brand new gospel singing group, GEMS are set to crown their official entrance into the music scene with the release of their debut single titled “My Praise”.

With the list of emerging acts and bands on the rise, the GEMS seems to be clearly cut on their mission as a gospel music band and their vision which is “bringing God to the nations and bringing the nations to God, through music” as stated again by founder Oma Ojinmah. They are truly here and ready to shake things up.

The band, made up of gifted individual singers and artists have been busy recording some of their singles and videos most of which they have scheduled to be released this year. It will be a busy year for them with all they have planned for 2021 alone and one of such projects is a live in-studio recording, and several more projects which they wont let out full details on so far.

“My Praise” , their debut single, led by Ronny Reigns and Minister Aitee, will be released officially on February 26th in both audio and video. The single is a song of worship and exaltation to God and a sound that would stir up hearts in intense worship to God.

Stay expectant for this is the newest gospel music band on the block and they are here to stay.

The basic function of the church is to be involved in every facet of the life of the believer. This is evidently because the church is where God’s people are taught God’s Word so they can grow spiritually.

But to UK-based Ghanaian Afro-Gospel musician Joseph Matthew, also known as JM, the church today is not living up to its true billing. According to the award-winning musician, the Church has rather become one of the major places causing bountiful traumas for people.

“The Church is one of the places that cause a lot of trauma for people. One of the environments that causes trauma is the church but we are in the church, in the choir, and you are singing and your pastor or senior pastor is constantly talking down on his members .this is actually the dangerous type of trauma people experience in the church. It starts off with acute, then becomes persistent so over the years do you know how many people go through mental health issues in the church,” Matthew said.

He continued, “because your senior pastors talking down on pastors, your church leaders talking down on the youth – constantly, these kids go home and they feel the pressure to perform or to attend to do things …it’s one of the places where you have clicks, you have gangs in the church and then they gang up on people and secretly crashing and breaking them …people don’t even know about all these things all in the name of God.”

Joseph Matthew who is well noted for hit songs such as “Hallelujah”, “Nyame Ye” and “My Story” which has currently earned him a nomination at the 2021 Ghana National Gospel Music Awards made these comments while speaking as a special guest at the ‘I unravel event’- a youth worship night and seminar which was hosted by Anna Efah in London.
